Celebrating the Life of President Ho Chi Minh: Hanoi’s Artistic Tribute

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi is set to celebrate the 135th birthday of beloved leader President Ho Chi Minh, affectionately known as Uncle Ho by the Vietnamese people, with a vibrant array of cultural and artistic programs. The celebrations will honor his life and legacy, paying tribute to a great leader who continues to inspire generations.

Kicking off the festivities on May 17th, the Hanoi Cheo Theater will present a performance in Dong Hoi Commune, located in the city’s suburban district of Dong Anh. On the evening of May 18th, multiple theaters across Hanoi will come alive with a variety of shows. The Thang Long Puppetry Theater will enchant audiences in Lenin Park in Ba Dinh District, while the Hanoi Cai Luong Theater will showcase their talents in Ung Hoa District. The Hanoi Circus and Variety Arts Theater will thrill crowds in Thuong Tin District, and the Hanoi Drama Theater will captivate audiences in Soc Son District. Last but not least, the Thang Long Music and Dance Theater will present a spectacular performance in Long Bien District.

These celebrations are thoughtfully curated around three central themes: a tribute to the Communist Party of Vietnam, a celebration of President Ho Chi Minh’s extraordinary life and his enduring impact on Vietnam and its people, and an expression of the deep love and pride that Vietnamese citizens hold for their homeland and cultural identity.

At the heart of these events is a profound respect for President Ho Chi Minh, recognizing his invaluable contributions as a revolutionary leader, a cultural icon, and a champion of peace and humanity. He continues to be an inspiration for not just Vietnam but also for people around the world.

The performances are organized by Hanoi’s leading artistic institutions and feature a rich blend of traditional and contemporary art forms. From singing and dancing to music, theater, puppetry, and circus acts, the celebrations will showcase the diversity and talent of Vietnam’s cultural landscape.

A highlight of the commemorative program is the special performance titled “Gifts of May for Ho Chi Minh,” taking place on May 14th at the iconic Hanoi Opera House. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ta Quang Dong, has directed this spectacular show, which is divided into three parts: “The Person Who Sought the Image of the Country,” “The Flag of Peace,” and “The Shining Name of Ho Chi Minh.” This unique production combines live music, dance, theater, visual effects, cinema, and modern 3D mapping technology to create an immersive experience.

The first chapter, “The Person Who Sought the Image of the Country,” takes audiences on a journey through the early life of Nguyen Sinh Cung, Ho Chi Minh’s birth name, and his 30-year quest for national liberation. A particularly poignant moment is the piece “White Winters,” which uses expressive dance and holographic visuals to depict his time abroad, especially in France.

In the second chapter, “The Flag of Peace,” the production shines a light on President Ho Chi Minh’s vision for global peace and solidarity. This segment includes a documentary, “Ho Chi Minh: The Flag of Peace and Global Influence,” featuring insights from international scholars and longtime friends of Vietnam. It showcases the impact of his leadership and compassion on a global scale.

The final chapter, “The Shining Name of Ho Chi Minh,” celebrates the enduring strength and unity of the Vietnamese people as they continue on the path laid out by Uncle Ho. His guidance continues to steer the nation towards progress and global integration.

Through these performances, the organizers aim to instill a sense of patriotism, sacrifice, and national pride in the younger generations, reflecting the values that President Ho Chi Minh embodied throughout his remarkable life.
