Examining the Construction Progress of Five-Star Public Restrooms in Ho Chi Minh City

Unlike many other public restrooms found throughout the city, the five-star restrooms are cleaned and maintained by a caretaker. They are also well lit at night.
People who use the five-star restrooms are mainly domestic and foreign tourists, as well as street vendors.
These restrooms are fully automated, and are free to use. People are able to rate their satisfaction through an electronic system installed inside the facility.
These restrooms are also equipped with bike theft prevention and perception of safety through the installed CCTV system.
Ho Chi Minh City, the most populous locality in Vietnam, welcomes tens of millions of domestic and international holidaymakers every year. However, the city only has 200 public restrooms, many of which have already deteriorated. District 1 has 18 public restrooms across 13 public locations, including four markets, seven parks, one bus stop, and a residential area.
During a recent working session held in District 1, Nguyen Van Nen, Party chief of Ho Chi Minh City, urged the local administration to speed up the construction of public restrooms, while calling on schools, restaurants, and businesses to allow free use of their restrooms.
